Friday, August 21, 2026 — Travel Tech Association (Travel Tech) submitted comments urging the U.S. Department of Transportation to retain the Full Fare Advertising Rule, which requires travelers to see the total price of air transportation upfront.
Travel Tech emphasized that the rule has served consumers and the marketplace well for more than a decade by enabling apples-to-apples airfare comparisons and supporting competition based on the actual price consumers will pay.
“Consumers should know the full cost of air travel before making a purchase decision,” said Laura Chadwick, President & CEO of Travel Tech. “The Full Fare Advertising Rule is a clear and effective consumer protection that supports transparency, competition, and informed choice in the air travel marketplace. DOT should retain the rule, and if it chooses to make revisions, those changes should be limited and should preserve upfront total-price disclosure.”
Travel Tech members operate where consumers compare competing airline offerings and invest in systems that display accurate total-price information across platforms, devices, and displays. Transparent, comparable pricing is essential to informed consumer choice and a well-functioning air travel marketplace.
Travel Tech urged DOT to retain the existing rule without modification. If DOT makes revisions, Travel Tech said they should be limited to the NPRM’s proposed text and preserve upfront total-fare disclosure. Travel Tech opposed full or partial repeal, including reliance on the Internal Revenue Code provision as a substitute for DOT’s consumer protection framework.
The comments continue Travel Tech’s more than twenty-five years of advocacy before DOT for policies that promote consumer choice, innovation, competition, transparency, and clear, comparable airline pricing information.
